What is Spring Sing?

Spring Sing is a celebration of the wonderful singing and music which takes place at the eight ‘Cobwebs’ schools: Chilworth, Bramley, Wonersh and Shamley, Ewhurst, Busbridge, Shere, Shalford and Clandon. It offers the opportunity for all the Year 2 children in these schools to participate.

Spring Sing culminates in a one-day event taking place in the spring, with the children learning the songs during the Christmas and Spring terms. The  conductor visits each school to meet the children, to rehearse some, or all, of the songs and to familiarize them with the conducting style.

The children will also have the opportunity to participate in the ‘design the programme cover‘ competition.

Caroline Maxwell-Gale, Founder & Conductor

Caroline began her professional life with a music degree and PGCE in junior class teaching. Her first job was as a Year One class teacher in a village school in Dorset, with responsibility for music throughout the school. When moving to Surrey she took on the role of Head of Music at Rydes Hill Preparatory School, Guildford.

After the arrival of husband and children Caroline took a variety of part-time music specialist jobs in primary schools in around Farnham, where she has lived for the past 20 years.

In 2006 Caroline successfully completed her Masters degree in Music Education. Since then Caroline has taken on a number of roles as choral director and music leader with a variety of organisations. She holds a diploma-level choral conducting qualification from the Association of British Choral Directors (ABCD) awarded in 2011.

Caroline has worked extensively with young children including working with large groups for the national ‘Sing Up’ educational programme and for ‘Tuning Up’. She also leads popular training sessions for teachers.

Caroline is particularly known for her ability to engage and motivate all children with energy and enthusiasm. A great admirer and student of the philosophy of Emile Jaques Dalcroze, the Swiss music educationalist, Caroline believes that enjoyment is crucial to success and that the more active the learning the better.
